Studio Notes

Occasional letters from the studio

The influences, encounters, and ideas that shape the works I make

Early sight of new works and where you can see existing ones.

Welcome. Studio Notes is a semi-regular letter to anyone who wants to follow the work more closely than Instagram allows. It goes out no more than once a month, sometimes less — only when there is something worth saying.

What you'll find in a letter

New work and works in progress. First sight of new series, studies, and pieces before they appear anywhere else — including the occasional look at process and source material that doesn't fit a feed.

Exhibition news. Where the work is showing, opening dates, and on occasion, an invitation.

Inspiration and Research. The influences behind the work — artists, books, places, ideas. The things that stay with me and eventually find their way into a painting or film.

How to receive Studio Notes

There is no form and no list to join through a machine. Simply email me at catrin@catrinohara.studio with the subject line "Studio Notes" — or any subject line at all, truly — and I will add you personally.

You will hear from me at most once a month. Every letter ends with a note on how to stop receiving them, and if you ever want to leave the list, one line to me will do it.

How I use your email

Why a letter?

Because a practice like mine moves slowly, and the feed does not. The work is about meditative, recursive looking — at nature, at light, at the human hand in a digital age — and a letter suits that better than a broadcast. If that appeals, I would be glad of your company.
